Do what you love and you'll never work a day.

I have gotten to the point in my life where I forget or mix sayings, often to the point of being comical (read: ? sad ?), but I believe I am at least close with the title of this post. Some people will say that I work a lot but to me the time I spend is actually very relaxing.
Just because it is the weekend it does not mean that we stop grinding. The morning was spent hosting a 90-minute Zoom call about diversity and inclusion with the leadership team of a company that owns a collection of restaurants. It speaks to the commitment of this group that they would give up their Sunday morning to put in the work to identify goals, and brainstorm ideas and actions. I love helping clients to build strategies that not only reflect, but add to and STRENGTHEN, their employer brand. 90-minutes is not enough time to do it all but it was a great start to work that will be ongoing and evolving. I look forward to helping their Human Resources and Operations teams establish and drive this effort until they are ready to carry it themselves.
Energized from this D&I meeting, I took a walk with my dog around our new(ish) neighborhood and used a great suggestion from someone on Instagram: don’t give up your walk for coffee and don’t give up your coffee for a walk; take your coffee with you. (So simple, right??? Add in an audio book playing in my AirPods, and it was a perfect to keep me feeling productive.)
The morning finished up with another activity that holds a very special meaning to me. Since March of this year, I have been personally mailing out pet supply gift cards to families who have been struggling financially from COVID and, most recently, I have included those affected by the fires on the west coast. No one should have to choose between feeding themselves or their pets, and this has been my own small way of giving back. So my late morning/early afternoon was spent handwriting more notes of encouragement and care, and stuffing and addressing envelopes. (And, yes, there was more coffee!)
I know that some will find my weekend mornings to be “work” but because I enjoy what I do, because it brings me energy, and because I love making a difference for companies and people, I feel light and renewed. So, with that, there’s only one question to ask: what’s next?
