Do what you love-LOVE what you do....
Lots of people say "Do what you love and you will always be happy."
Ray Bradbury famously said, “Love what you do and do what you love. Don't listen to anyone else who tells you not to do it. You do what you want, what you love. Imagination should be the center of your life.”
This was all rattling around in my head today while thinking of my Monday Motivation.?
When I look back at my career it was not a straight path and I really believe that you can and should?love what you do?rather than do what you love.
As a child, some of us are encouraged to “pursue our dreams/passions.” ?but I do think many successful people actually discover that they fall in love with what they’re doing, which can be much more important.
I did not plan to become a Recruiter but after doing a lot of other stuff along the way I fell into this career and once I started, I loved helping people at what could be considered the most stressful time in their lives, the writing, the creativity of seeing a career path for people once I listened to their skills and what they loved doing and, in particular at this company, the ability to really make a difference for both our clients and candidates to achieve great new frontiers in Engineering.
Looking back, this job ties together all sorts of things I am passionate about, but when I started I had no idea how much I would love this work.
In Steve Jobs' Stanford speech he outlines this idea pretty clearly: He?talked about how he kept going after he was fired from Apple .
I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.
I don’t believe he is saying to figure out what you love and then go do that but “If” you choose to love what you're doing, then it will turn into your passion and your work will be great -which brings happiness and satisfaction in life.
Bringing passion to your job can be challenging, but I accept that challenge and I choose anew each Monday what I can do to make my work and day great!
