It's crazy that "being in tech" usually denotes doing work 100% via computer...but using complex tools + computers is NOT "being in tech." Really? ??
For example: "Paul" graduated from college 14 years ago. He's 38. Paul loves cars, motorcycles, sound systems, and selling. When he graduated, he sold cars. But, that was just part of Paul's plan. He wanted to learn more and make some money. Paul's longer-term plan was to open a business doing something with cars and/or motorcycles, sound systems, and sales. All the things he loves.
Paul has a motorcycle repair business. But that's not all the business does. It strips down bikes, turns them into visual works of art, + adds high tech sound systems to the bikes. The work is physically done on the bikes + requires computers/phones.
Paul has 4 full time employees. So he deals with everything that comes with managing finances, people, government requirements, vendor contracts, etc. His office isn't away from the shop floor. It's next to the floor. And when the employees leave for the day, Paul is still there.
Without mechanical knowledge Paul wouldn't have a business. Without tech, Paul wouldn't have a business.
Without being invested in doing what makes him happy AND makes money, Paul wouldn't have a business.
You weren't born to be defined by what other people think you should be doing. You weren't born to limit yourself to whatever you think should be doing. You owe you to stand for you and invest in doing what you WANT to do.
