Do we remember how to do this?

So often I find in business we have this rinse, wash and repeat mindset of doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for the results to be different.

Do we know how to create a genuine connection quickly with people? Does it get created through technology or through the phone?

I love the phone because then I can hear the tone of someones voice and be able to see how I can actually help.

In sales sometimes when we just read through a script it doesn't actually help to have a genuine and quick connection.

I will give an example. This morning I connected with a person who at first was not very happy that I had called him. He in general was very disconnected on the phone, quickly answered my questions and then just came across as grumpy. Then I laughed at the fact that his first name is my middle name and that I pronounce my middle name differently. He then laughed too! Then the doors opened!

Yay for genuine connection!

And you guessed it, scheduled the appointment as well!

Cold calling is like speed dating. We want to create a genuine connection as quickly as possible to see if this person is the right fit or not.

Here are three ways to have the best cold calls:

  1. Know the script before calling. People can tell when you are reading, don't read. If you mess up on the call say, "gosh, I am sorry I misspoke, let me say it correctly so we both have clarity".
  2. If you can see where they are located and if you all have anything in common prior to the call. This should take 10 seconds or less to just see. If not no big deal.
  3. On the actual call see if you can find out something about them, maybe make a comment about something that you just love and adore and see if they will add to it. Very often when speaking with business owners, travel is always top of mind. So maybe fun places they have been recently or things they are looking forward to. Anything to create a quick relationship. The next time you connect to them you can then ask about their trip and what they liked or didn't like about it. Very simple and yet very impactful.
