Do we really need Twitter verification?
Twitter verification is a feature that allows users to confirm their identity and prove that their account is authentic. While it may seem like a badge of honor for some, the reality is that Twitter verification doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.
For starters, Twitter verification does not automatically make someone an expert or authority on a particular subject. Just because someone has a blue checkmark next to their name does not mean they are knowledgeable or qualified to speak on a given topic. Furthermore, verification does not guarantee that a user's tweets are accurate or reliable.
Twitter verification can be misleading, as it creates the impression that verified users are somehow more important or valuable than unverified users. This can lead to a hierarchy of influence and attention that is based solely on a symbol next to a user's name, rather than on the quality of their content or the strength of their ideas.
Moreover, Twitter verification has been criticised for being arbitrary and inconsistent. Many users have complained that the verification process is opaque and difficult to navigate, with some accounts being verified despite having very few followers or little public presence, while others with much larger followings are denied verification without explanation.
Ultimately, Twitter verification is just a superficial feature that can give users a false sense of importance or legitimacy. While it may provide some level of reassurance for those seeking to confirm the identity of a particular account, it should not be relied upon as a measure of credibility or value. Instead, users should focus on creating and sharing high-quality content that is informative, engaging, and relevant to their audience.
