Do we make connection and getting to know people a priority?
It's been a busy few weeks with the back to school and start of college. Life is evolving and new chapters are beginning, but in all this excitement how do we remember to stay connected?
In a busy week, it's can be hard to prioritise being on LinkedIn, when you've a 1001 other to do's that must be done to ensure success at work. In my experience our culture has always been to complete your to do list. As our to do lists grow, I think this maybe an unrealistic goal to strive for. I'm thinking that for my weeks going forward I'm going to prioritise being on LinkedIn to connect first and then move onto my to do list. The to do list will still be there, ready and waiting to be attended too. To do's are important, they help us to complete our work, to focus on the right tasks to achieve our goals and objectives to provide our services; but they are not always looking far enough into the future.
People buy from people; as we so often hear, but do we take that statement in and act accordingly? Do we make connection and getting to know people a priority?

LinkedIn as a platform can certainly help us with that activity. We can read people's profiles, we can find out about them, we can read their posts and newsletters, find out more about them. We can think about the best way to build our business relationships with people as it's only by spending time getting to know each other, that deep connections can form and friendships grow from our authentic interactions. There's so much we can do here, we need to prioritise the actions that feel right for us.

2 年I agree that to-do lists are essential, without them people either get results straight away or are forgotten about until you get that awful reminder (if you are lucky). You dont havre to be a slave to those often over ambitious deadlines we can't help putting to them. When I'm going to be late for an appointment I generally call the client and they are practically always fine with it. Perhaps we should do the same with the time for tasks we promise.?It's important to be realistic with deadlines and then we can find that time for the enjoyable aspects of work

2 年Nice idea Emma Wyatt - definitely guilty of putting the nice-to-dos (especially checking in with friends and former colleagues who may have a lot on their plates) at the bottom of a must-do list.
