Do We Climb Mountains Only Because They Are There??

Do We Climb Mountains Only Because They Are There??

Why is it that some go where others have not? Some climb mountains because they are there…we all know that old cliché.

Yet, there are those who go into the absolute unknown because they have a completely different motivation. If I don’t know what’s there, if I can’t see where I am going, if I have no visibility and no real direction to orient me, if my journey has no clear horizon and my GPS isn’t tracking, then what drives me?

Think about it (kind of scary) in a world where so much of what we do and where we go is:

  • Meticulously planned
  • Synched and linked?
  • Data-driven to supposedly know our desires before we do
  • Calculated to within fractions of micro inches and timed to within nanoseconds?

Frankly, the notion of just taking off seems almost absurd.

And yet…

  • Something drove pre-historic humans to leave their caves and venture forth beyond the shelter of what they knew.?

  • Something drove our ancestors to leave the terra-firma that their world hugged and sail alone into unknown waters.

  • Something drove Copernicus and Galileo to leave the security of facts that “everyone knew were true” and wander in the lonely wilderness of science without so much as a compass or guidepost.

  • Something drove Marconi, Ford, and Edison to think beyond what was by imagining what wasn’t.?

  • Something drove DaVinci and Michelangelo to create timeless masterpieces for times they would never see.

Think about it: Most of these explorers, searchers, creators, originators, and initiators had no idea of what they would really find…where they would really end up…where they were really going.

The question is: How many of us would have followed them then??

How many of us are ready to follow now?

Many of them started going one way and ended up going in another. Their peers didn’t understand them, and I’m sure they were hounded for merely daring the journey.

So where does that leave us??

Think about this: What drove Albert Einstein? What made him a genius and a font of new and innovative thinking?? Listen…

“I am neither especially clever nor especially gifted. I am only very, very curious.” —Albert Einstein

Think about it again. Clearly, he was clever, and clearly he was gifted. Yet he valued curiosity most—it’s what he saw as the core of his success.

What drives you? Are you ready to take the leap, to explore, and to leave the comfort zone? How do you see the quest? Where should it lead?

Do you agree with Einstein??

Are you really curious??

Remember that GE thought the Walkman would never take off, and others thought the computer was a business novelty.

We’re in the business of ideas—big ideas. And big ideas come from people who think big. People who think big are explorers and take risks. They are the Curious Class.

Get the picture? SO...

WHAT DO YOU THINK??

And DO IT BIG OR STAY IN BED!

And be CURIOUS.

This is a powerful reminder of the value of curiosity and the willingness to venture into the unknown. It's the insatiable thirst for knowledge and the willingness to venture into the unknown that has propelled humanity forward throughout history. Just like Einstein, many visionaries valued curiosity as the core of their success.

Each and everyone of us were made differently to go through different kinds of journey. As long as we learn, we will reach what we were meant to do and achieve.... no matter what! So if the mountain is there.... we have a choice.... climb + not to climb + maybe later + asked to climb
