Do we all really feel so??????

Do we all really feel so??????

Hi!

A small question, do we really consider Men=Women, especially in professional roles. Think twice before saying "Yes I Do". Are teaching roles not biased to be better done by women, a male surgeon is always preferred over female doctors, the only exception is Gynaec where again we show biases towards women. Similarly, the male barber is always preferred over females, Married Women/Young Mothers are always thought to come to the office with lots of personal baggage and are less likely considered for handling challenging roles. Fields like Employee Relations/IR are still considered to be a male-centric domain.

But I beg to differ....and say roles should be specific to skills and qualifications and not biased by Gender or any other biases. Like in my case, I was always fascinated to take up challenging roles and do things "Hat ke" from the normal league as it was the main lesson imbibed in me being a child, by my father. He always trusted me and told me that I am independent enough to take decisions, even if they are wrong, learn from them, and try things that were alien. Gave me chance to try new things, allowed me to fall down and standing up again, and trying harder the next time.

This confidence allowed me to take risky projects in work, which were otherwise considered to be specifically male-oriented. Like my first assignment, going up to my Manager and asking him to send me to a dying store that was far away from my residence and trying to do my bit to revive the same. But I was fortunate enough to have always been headed by Managers who like my father trusted me and gave me tasks that were tough and wanted me to succeed. Thanks, @Amit Marya Sir and @Ashish Shukla Sir and for trusting me when I was a fresher and motivating me to do better. In my last organization, My Mentor @Dharmender Singh Negi Sir gave me the task of handling disciplinary cases/ representing Labour courts, and help in difficult Employee relations cases, mitigating between Workers and Management for smoothening Operations, and helping to build a happy culture specifically amongst blue collars. The kind of trust and love I found in this role, would always be most special to my heart. Proud and Happy to say I did fairly well in this field which has always been Male driven and that I can conclude as many workers together with their leaders came to my Director-Employee Relations and urged him to ask me to stay when I resigned for Professional Growth.

To sum up, I like to say, “If women are expected to do the same work as men, we must teach them the same things.” Please do not restrict roles for a specific gender, keep it open and Let the best person manage it as per the skills and experience and not because he is male or female.
