Do these things tomorrow to convert prospects

The main challenge facing startups is getting, keeping and growing customers. The same applies whether you are a technology company, a program looking to implement and disseminate a new product or service within your organization or a non-profit growing its membership.


Here are some things you can start doing tomorrow:


  1. Have a strategic digical marketing and engagement plan
  2. Win the website wars
  3. Have a social media content creation and distribution strategy
  4. Create a marketing budget
  5. Test and measure the results
  6. Measure your cost of customer acquisition v the lifetime value of a customer
  7. Choose an appropriate conversion rate and measure it
  8. Be sure your content is repetitive, redundant, and relational
  9. Measure whether your plan is creating the right emotional crowd response
  10. Community x connectivity x content = conversions=cash. Build each piece
  11. Target the right potential customers
  12. Do the jobs your potential customers want you to do and show them, don't tell them.
  13. Test your marketing ideas
  14. Maximize search engine optimization
  15. Get the right people on your startup team. Who is your storyteller? Customer success person?
  16. Tell stories
  17. Create an appropriate cadence of content on the right channels
  18. Be patient and persistent
  19. Find the 20% of users who will buy 80% of what you are selling and don't waste money on the rest
  20. Move prospects for awareness to intention to decision to action to advocacy.
