Why do you do the things you do? Have you ever asked yourself that questions?
Not in a trivial, blah, blah kind of way. I mean with everything, from what you do, how you do it and why you do it. Have you thought about things as small as why you hold your pen the way you do, to how you walk, talk and think about the things that you do?
I heard a story once about a husband and wife sitting around the kitchen when the wife takes out a piece meat she is going to be cooking for dinner. She places it on the cutting board and proceeds to cut off both ends of this beautiful piece of meat, when the husband says, “honey can I ask you why you always cut off what looks like the ends of that meat, they both look like they would be great”? His wife answers, my mom and grandma always did so that’s why I do.
Later that evening, when the wife’s mom came over for dinner, the husband asked his mother-in-law why do you cut off the ends of your meat?
His mother-in-law smiled and said “we did that because the pans we used back then were not big enough to fit the entire meat.
All these years this wife had been cutting off the meat all because the pan was too small back in the day.
Why do you do what you do? Experts say 88% of what we believe is a function our conditioning.
Look into everything you do, ask yourself why and if it does not make sense then do something different!
I enjoy implementing technology and process improvements and helping to build robust, capable systems and teams who work cross-functionally and act with an owners mindset. Let's connect!
6 年I missed this post the first time around. It is a good example of a Continuous Improvement Approach vs. Don't Make Waves.
