Do As They Say, Not As They Do
From today’s reading...
“Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you,
but do not follow their example.”
Having business, religious, and elected officials who don’t walk their talk has been an issue for at least 2,000 years.
Now we can add celebrities and athletes to that list as well.
So take comfort in knowing that there really is nothing new under the Sun.
What we’re seeing today is not any better or worse than what humans have done since Cain and Abel.
Soon we’ll set New Year’s resolutions along with our friends and family and we’ll fail to lead by example within weeks if not days.
Self-discipline is hard.
Leading is hard.
Self-control is hard.
Being consistent is hard.
But when you do hard things without complaining and without fanfare even when no one is looking the world becomes a better place.
And you become a better person.
And becoming better is what we are called to do as we...
Stay the course.
Keep the faith.
Endure.
