You may or may not have ever heard of Make dot Com, and that's ok. What you will have seen though are the numerous articles on blogs from people boasting how they made quick dough using AI based Automation tools. The most popular of them all is Make.

Some blabla about Make, before the real stuff

Ok, let's start by Einstein's' favorite past time game: "a thought experiment". Imagine an Ai-assistant (it's hard to, I know), that can connect all your apps, automate repetitive tasks, and build workflows without requiring any coding skills. Now that is Make in a nutshell.

Make is an automation platform that allows you to integrate various services and automate workflows and it is really, really cool (they should pay me for these marketing intensifiers).

And the domain must have cost them a fortune.

They are a powerhouse (I hate this marketing word, but couldn't think of another quick), next to Zapier, in the world of AI based automation and therefore I owed it to myself to check them out.

To give you an idea, here are (just) five examples of what you can do with Make ??

Automate social media posts

You can create a scenario that automatically publishes your content across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram at scheduled times. Your social media presence remains active and engaging without you lifting a finger.

Sync CRM with e-mail for marketing

Keep your customer relationship management system and email marketing platform in sync. For example, when a new contact is added to your CRM, Make can automatically add them to your email marketing list. Your communications are always up-to-date and personalized.

Manage e-commerce orders

Make can connect your e-commerce platform with your inventory management system, your shipping service, or accounting software. When an order is placed, it triggers a workflow that updates your stock, processes the shipment, and records the transaction in your financial records.

Some project management

Let's go wild and integrate your project management tool with your team’s communication app. For instance, you can set up a scenario where new tasks in Trello or Asana are automatically sent as notifications to your Slack or Microsoft Teams channel. This keeps everyone in the loop and ensures that projects move forward smoothly.

A bit of customer support

Improve your customer support by connecting your help desk software with other tools. When a support ticket is raised in Zendesk, Make can automatically log the issue in your project management tool, notify the relevant team members via email or chat, and even update the customer’s CRM record. This integrated approach ensures that customer issues are resolved promptly and efficiently.


Now let's do some no-code automation !

In this second bit of this article, I will proceed with making a custom GPT (the "mini ChatGPT" you can build with a bit of prompting, that will use your documents and info so that you can build your "own" chat-bot-thingy - from OpenAI). The custom GPT will be connected with Make and its main task is to provideideas for practical automations using OpenAI Playground, the API-Key + Make.


Here we go !


1. The basics:

Integrating GPT with Make involves using the API provided by OpenAI and the OpenAI Module in Make. If you are new to Make, read this:

So first, you log in to your make account or create one here .

Second, you create your custom gpt via the OpenAI Playground , upload all your files, description, pick the model (the newest one has a 128k token window), fine-tune it and then you save it:

Now, in the Make console, you can create a new scenario. Click on the module button and select OpenAI. Connect it to your OpenAI account via the API key that you can generate here . Then in Make, click on “Message an Assistant”.

Now you choose your Assistant and the message you want to send it.

Here, your creativity is needed. For instance, you could automate customer support by receiving the message from the customer through another module, sending the message to your custom GPT assistant, and then providing the answer back via the module in your customer support app.

I have listed a few other ideas below.

2. Some automation ideas with a GPT and Make:

Here are some innovative ideas for automations combining GPT and Make:


Speech-to-Text Processing and Task Management:

  • Use Case: Automating voice note processing and task management.
  • How it Works: Create a voice recorder app that sends audio files to Google Drive. Make then downloads these files and sends them to GPT (using the Whisper-1 model for speech-to-text). The processed text is then broken down into tasks and sent to a task management tool like Trello, while also notifying the assistant on platforms like Facebook.
  • Benefits: This system simplifies the process of converting speech to tasks, ideal for personal assistants and project management.


Social Media and Communication Automation:

  • Use Case: Automating responses and posts on social media platforms.
  • How it Works: Use GPT to generate custom content or responses based on prompts. The content can then be automatically posted to social media platforms or used to send SMS/emails via Make’s automation.
  • Benefits: This automation saves time in content creation and ensures consistent communication on various platforms.
  • Customer Service Automation: Integrate GPT with customer service platforms to automatically generate responses to common queries.

Etc, etc, etc..you can literally go to chatgpt and generate a lot of other ideas. The limit is nearly endless..
