Many of us need to do more than showing up in events (conferences, seminars, workshops, masterclasses etc)

Showing up is good but it is not enough.?

?

Many remain the same event after event because all they do is show up and nothing else.?

?

Truth is, I am a better professional and entrepreneur because of the events I attended at the beginning of my career and even now.?

But there is a difference between showing up and being active.?

Apart from just showing up, I recommend the following;

1. When you show up in an event, network.?

Move to people, greet them with a smile, introduce yourself properly, tell them what you do and seek to know them more and their work. Kindly request their contact, find an angle in their introduction and see how to push for further discussion that can lead to collaboration. By all means network. All the opportunities and money you are looking for, they are not in heaven, they are in people. Until you connect, you will not get.?

2. When you show up, ask questions and contribute

Pay attention, be curious and ask questions to the invited experts. This positions you to learn more, to portray yourself as an expert, to be noticed by other people which can lead to further discussions and collaboration etc. Be a contributor.

3. When you show up, show up with promotional materials.

This actually will depend on the type of event. With this sometimes you can find a way to reach out to the organizer to find out if you can bring your flyers to share. Some will say yes and some will say no. That is ok. However, a business card that is well done is a good promotional material. Show and share as much as you can.?

4. When you show up, take notes and make firm change decisions.?

Many people come to seminars and workshops without journals to take notes. Next time get one. Take notes and while you do so, highlight key things you are learning and develop an action plan on how you will implement these in your career and business. Let this action plan have dates and possibly inform someone to hold you accountable to implement. For change to happen, committed action is critical.?

Therefore, after all this grammar, all I am saying is, from today do more than showing up. Give and take value.?
