DO NOT make these same mistakes I did in business

Sometimes, our biggest mistakes pave the way for our most profound discoveries.?

Reflecting on my own journey, I can vividly recall a pivotal moment about 25 years ago when I was the CEO of a 300-person company.?

Back then, I thought I was "living the dream," only to realize it wasn't my dream at all —? it was my mother's.?

This realization became the catalyst for the journey that taught me the importance of true leadership.

The turning point was acknowledging my misery in a role that didn't align with my true passion.?

It became clear that to be an effective leader, one must be authentic and true to oneself. Making the decision to leave and pursue my passion was liberating. As I shifted my focus to building a company that resonated with my authentic self, I entered a state of "flow" as described by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi — the renowned psychologist who coined the term.?

This state, also known as "autotelectic," is when you engage in an activity purely for the joy it brings, detached from concerns about the outcome.

Free from the pressure of conformity, I immersed myself in the mission of turning the company into a benchmark for optimal performance.?

The shift in perspective allowed me to stop fixating on financials and instead focus on spreading the contagious enthusiasm for our mission.?

The company began to grow organically as people were drawn to the authenticity and belief we conveyed — that we could change the rules of the game and elevate performance from "really good" to "World Class."

The lesson learned from this experience is clear: be authentic, even if it means stepping outside the conventional boundaries.?

Authenticity is a powerful force that not only transforms individuals but also has the potential to inspire and propel organizations to new heights.
