I joined a company once, and my new manager told me of someone else: "Paul is terrible. He is a backstabber. He is dishonest. He will try to bring you down."
By that point of my career, I learned to form my own opinions of people.
It did not take me long to realize that Paul is one of the best people the company had.
Paul was smart, honest, caring and hard working.
Those characteristics were what made Paul unpopular with my new boss. Good people are often seen as threats by weak leaders.
Paul and I are still good friends, many years later (his real name is not Paul).

We must never judge anyone by the opinion of someone else.
In fact, we should not judge at all. We can form opinions.
1) We must form our own opinions
2) We must take time and lots of data points
3) We must give people benefit of the doubt
We owe it to other people.
We owe it to ourselves.

7 年Sadly people allow themselves to stand by, and allow the instigator to act out their insecurities. Do the bystanders or the instigator ever consider how the actions or lack of, affect the lives of those in the line of the attack. For senior mgmt to condone that behaviour, creates an environment of negativity and no trust.

7 年Very true. We should form our own opinions and not just take the word of one person (who may be bias or have an agenda or just an overall gossiper). Look at people and things from all prospectives and then make and informed opinion/decision of your own
