Do LinkedIn InMails/DMs Make Unemployment Job Search Longer?

This will probably be a big surprise for you ...

But LinkedIn InMails and Direct Messages can make your job search longer.

There are a number of reasons why using LinkedIn InMails and DMs don't work well for job search,?especially?for unemployed candidates:

• You don't see most results to your?LinkedIn?search: LinkedIn free members see 1% of their full search results, paid members only see 2%. Worse,?LinkedIn?chooses who you see, not you.
• The person you're trying to reach isn't on?LinkedIn?much: Unless they're looking for a job.
• Your InMail/DM doesn't hit your target's inbox email: Unless they are also looking for a job, most will folderize social media emails or use a separate email address ... your?LinkedIn?InMails and DMs aren't hitting their primary email inbox, so they are seldom seen by your target.
• LinkedIn?limits who you can?communicate?with: Even if the right person shows up in your search, you may be able to?communicate?with them or you may not, subject to?LinkedIn's rules.
• LinkedIn?limits the number of InMails/DM a member can send daily and monthly: This is true even for paid LinkedIn members, and both the daily and monthly limits are pretty limiting.

InMails/DM can work for?recruiters, but they only can send a limited number of emails per day and month. While recruiters are typically on?LinkedIn, aren't you trying to get past and around recruiters, rather than investing time networking with them?

There are better solutions than?LinkedIn?to scale your network and communicate with employers about your job search .
