Do Leaders leverage their Sixth sense often?

Sixth Sense is often used as a buzzword in many conversations. There are many books, videos, and guidance available in the market, which can coach us on how one can leverage their Sixth Sense. Needless to say that Sixth sense can only come into the picture when we maximize the usage of our 5 primary senses i.e. sense of smell, sight, touch, taste, and hearing.

Once we use all our 5 senses effectively, successful leaders, start discovering their Sixth Sense (or some may refer to as their inner voice, gut feel, or instinct). Let me quote a small example to share what we can do to leverage our Sixth Sense all the time.

?Consider your family for a moment, where you live with your spouse and parents. For any small/mundane daily tasks you take your own decisions (for example: what to eat, what to wear, etc.). When you have to make some decisions on where to live, which school should you send your kids to, etc. you discuss it with your spouse or partner but you don't often talk to your Mom or Dad about these small decisions. However, when the problem becomes complex and you need someone with more experience in life who may have encountered a similar situation, at that time you probably reach out to your parents, mentors or any seniors for their guidance.

Having said that, let me draw a parallel to our brain. In the above example:

  • Solo Decision (Small/mundane daily tasks): Our reflex actions or instant reactions are governed by our Medulla section of the brain. We need to act fast and don't need to think a lot in making those decisions. So, we don't discuss this with anyone and do it alone.
  • Decisions with a partner (Problems where we need little discussion/thought): Our Cerebrum part of the brain does this activity. Whenever we are faced with a problem, we sit down for a moment and think on what is the best solution to the problem based on our past learnings or experiences.
  • Parents/Mentors (Complex problems where we need expert advice):?This is an aspect that individuals don't do often. This is where we need to engage our Cerebellum (analytical) section of the brain which helps us activate our Sixth Sense. The sixth sense uses all the information collected from our other 5 senses and connects the dots to ensure we have an all-rounded solution. Most of the time, we don't even realize that our Sixth Sense is activated, we casually say that my inner voice says I should do this. If done correctly, our Sixth Sense always comes up with the right answer.

In short, the only reason we don't leverage our Sixth Sense often is that we don't go to our inner self to analyze and discover a solution. Most of the time, due to urgency and fast-paced life, people just look for solutions through their Medulla (instant) or Cerebrum (Past experiences). But if we need better solutions, we have to leverage our Sixth Sense (which can only be activated when we sit down and give ourselves some time and talk to our inner self).

So, next time, whenever you want to activate your Sixth Sense, schedule some time aside for yourself and try to get an answer from your SMARTER inner version. You have the power to solve any problem. You just don't know it sometimes.

?

Note: I am not a neuroscientist to authenticate brain functions. I came across a few verses in a popular Indian book Bhagavad Gita and it talks about how to solve problems effectively. The above interpretation is purely my understanding of the text from the book. I am happy to learn and discuss more on this with you.?
