Do I want to be like someone else?

Do I want to be like someone else?

Welcome to the latest edition of Tuesday Trio.

This week, we are asking, “Do I want to be like someone else?” This includes:

  • How do I want to be like someone else?
  • Why do I want to be like someone else?
  • How do I feel when I want to be like someone else?

Expanding on the above points, we are going to talk about our comparison of ourselves with others. Does comparison, and wanting to be like someone else, leave us feeling empty, or inspired? Can it be a good thing, or a bad thing?

As ever, your input into our conversations around our mental health and well-being, is welcomed and encouraged. We learn from each other.???

What are we looking at this week?

This week we are looking at Malama Life on YouTube discussing, “How to stop comparing yourself to others.”?At I Am Here, we found it an interesting reflection on toxic comparisons, and how we might combat our tendency to compare ourselves to others, when comparison can leave us feeling inadequate, and empty. However, it also asks the question of when is comparison helpful, and inspiring.

What are we reading this week?

This week we are reading a blog off the website “AchieveConcierge” about the impact of comparison on our mental health.?Comparison has long since been called the “thief of joy,” and at I Am Here we think it an accurate description. We like how the piece discusses, that in comparing ourselves to others, we are, in truth, looking away from all the good things in our own lives. The blog offers us practices with which we can work, to help us be grateful for our own lives, and not to be looking to be living someone else’s life.

What are we quoting this week?

‘Two Humans are completely different from each other, comparing them is like insulting nature’

– Nitin Namdeo

At I Am Here, we like the present nature of this quote. It is in the now, it is in the certainty of the now, and it rests happily in the now.

At I Am Here, we thought this quote says it perfectly, when it comes to comparison. We ARE all so different, and at I Am Here, we celebrate our diversity, our uniqueness and our beautiful individuality.
