Do I need to be on Social Media?


I’ve had a few people reach out to me recently to say that they’ve noticed some changes to what I'm doing on social media. Generally the questions that follow are “why did you decide to do this?'', “do you think it's worth it?” and “what results have you seen?”.?


To put it simply, growing my online presence is something I've wanted to do for myself for a long time. The reality is that we now live in a very digital world and it is only going to become bigger. In response to this, we have two choices; to embrace it or to deny it.?


For quite some time, I was someone who denied it. I was confident in my ability to sell, to build relationships and to do everything a commercial real estate agent needs to be able to do…. So I didn’t think I needed social media.?


Then I lost a major appointment a few years back and was told it was due to my lack of an online presence.?


Ever since then, I have chosen to be one of the people who embrace social media. I wanted to have the strongest profile in commercial real estate so challenged myself to grow in this area and get out of my comfort zone. It is not easy at first, it can be quite confronting. Whilst hard at first, I then found it personally rewarding sharing what was important to me in life and what I have learned in my 30+ years of business. I was getting lots of really great feedback, so I dived in deeper.


I've been fortunate enough to engage my now good friend, Matt Purcell, who is an expert when it comes to personal branding and social media.?


But I know you’re probably still wondering how this has affected my business, so let me give you a brief summary.?


It has been one of the best decisions I've ever made in business. For me it’s the opportunity to show my existing and future clients what is important to me as a person, who I am and my achievements, in a passive manner. People ask me about ROI and tracking, this is hard in the beginning, but like anything you need to have the right intentions and stick with it, it is not about having overnight success. I can definitely track my results now.?


I understand that it’s a real privilege to be able to engage a team to help with social media, and that it's out of the scope for most people. So I decided to bring Matt onto my latest podcast episode to share his advice on how Real Estate Agents in particular, can go about building a personal brand. Some really insightful tips are covered which I think could really help a lot of people to get started with their own personal brands, so please don’t miss it.?
