So everyone's got this great idea and making an app for it !!
Do we even ask ourselves why we specifically need an app ? Would a website do as a start ? Its not like the minute i put this app on the store, millions of people would notice it, thousands would download it and make you $$$ !!
Intuitively, we still rely on Google to find apps / answers to what we want. Chances are that people would still find your technology solution on google faster through a microsite, blog and then try your app. Games are a definitive exemption to this.
We all agree that the penetration and dependence of users on mobile smart devices have increased the chances for workflows, basic tasks and apps getting downloaded, but everyone's now speculating on user traction and engagement to make money. Having a great idea will not suffice. Having the app get into our daily lives and really helping to solve a problem is going to get your app get traction from users and consistent upgrades are going to PUSH this to more.
Sometimes a mobile app becomes an inherent eventual product because of the nature of the workflow e.g. apps involving location based updates or real time data. These, my friends are the real app solutions.
So, the next time you think of a great idea, ask yourself - why an app ?
