Do I know myself
‘The unexamined life is not worth living.’ This famous quote by Socrates has got deeper meaning than what I believed it had. I truly believe that most of us are living a life of total ignorance, deeply lost in search of materialist pleasure and in the bargain losing touch with our own-self at every step we take. In our race with others, we are losing touch with our own-self and therefore forgetting our true identity. Everything about other is becoming more important for us. Isn’t it? I have an endless list of questions for others, but do I ever ask myself these questions?
· What am I feeling now?
· What am I thinking now?
· What am I doing at this moment?
· Am I doing something that will add some value to my life?
Answers to these questions will introduce me to myself. I will learn to stand outside myself, in order to know myself better, experience life, acknowledge and assess my emotions, thoughts and feelings as they occur in my mind and will further help me determine and control my behaviour and mood.
In this world of cutting edge competition, inculcation of this capacity allows us to be non-judgmental and accepting our own-self, it brings together our emotions and logic which enables us to decide how to act, how to deal with our weakness, how to remove our fears and live a happy life.
In order to maximize our happiness, we need to develop a habit of self-introspection to increase self-awareness and thereby increasing our potential to achieve our dreams
