Do The Hustle
It’s 6:34am on Sunday morning.?
I’m sitting on the sofa next to my 3 year old who spent most of the night in my bed, clinging to me like a limpet and occasionally sneezing in my mouth.
Safe to say, laying next to a human hot water bottle with a blocked nose and an almost superhuman ability to locate my nether regions with every out stretched limb isn’t conducive to a good night’s sleep.
Despite the sleep deprivation (and now, the sore throat) I’m already feeling the pressure to suck it up and power through the day. To get shit done. To be productive.?
Productivity. It’s often used as a measure of success because it’s tangible. Output can be counted, tracked, and compared.?
But can we really be productive all the time??
There’s no denying it though, society expects that we should be. And perhaps your employer does too??
Working in an environment that demands constant productivity can lead to burnout, and burnout doesn’t just affect your work, it impacts your health, your relationships, and your overall wellbeing.
It's not just unsustainable, it’s actually counterproductive.
Rest and downtime go hand in hand when it comes to maintaining high quality work.?Give 'Rest: Why You Get More Done When You Work Less' by Alex Pang a read if you don't believe me.
If you’re working somewhere that values 'busy' work over meaningful, balanced productivity then trust me…you deserve better.?
Right, I’m off to down a Lemsip.?
The End.
