Do Not Forget to Tell Your Story

There is so much to read about great entrepreneurs. I strongly believe that every entrepreneur has a story to tell no matter how big or small they are. I am one of those passionate business people whose main goal is to build great brands that will thrive from generations to generations. In as much as I work so hard to sustain my business ventures, I also need to take time to write my story. The journey I travelled so far can inspire someone.

Today I decided to share my story in the Market Research industry statistically. As they say, numbers don't lie. Hitting 70 market research projects as the Project Lead is a key milestone especially after serving several industries and sectors for the past decade. Interestingly, I have done 16 of the 70 research projects at BM Consultants being the Founder and Managing Partner. The rest were done when I worked with some of the leading research companies before starting my own consulting firm.

Telecommunications sector (17.2%) takes the trophy because I have been involved in telecoms research quite a lot serving several operators in Zimbabwe as well as the regulator. If there is a type of market research I enjoy the most, it's telecoms and I am also good at it. Having worked in the public sector, government institutions (15,2%) come second on the list. At one point I was Head of the Public Services & NGOs Research with my previous employer. I enjoyed public sector research simply because of my educational background as a development practitioner. With public sector research, I have the opportunity to also contribute to issues of national importance.

Currently, I am also doing a lot of collaborations with quite a number of consulting firms in the same industry. This is coming as a surprise to other research professionals because our industry is highly competitive and there is less collaboration and partnerships. However, my approach has always been to open up to opportunities other than opening up to competition. This approach has worked for us as a business and for me personally.

On this journey, my wish is to continue breaking new ground and serve as many sectors as possible, locally, regionally and internationally. Market Research is my daily bread. I can do many other things for instance, I am into dairy farming now, but I am ready to do Market Research any time. My key strengths in Market Research include sales, proposal writing, research design, training, report writing, presentations and client relationship management.

Breaking new ground is a big thing for us at BM Consultants. Of the 16 projects we have done so far at BM Consultants, 10 were in Real Estate, an industry I had never tried before starting the consulting firm and it is an exciting experience. In Real Estate we are basically focusing more on feasibility market studies for large-scale investments. Obviously, we continue to do work in other sectors because our professionals in the company have a wealth of experience in such sectors.
