Do not follow these rules to avoid any clashes in your BIM

The mistake I often see in projects with BIM is that the model of different trades do not align.

That means no coordination issues on site but unhappy neighbors...

This is nothing new. I old colleague of mine at HPP told me the story of one of their projects in pre CAD and BIM times. It was a roundish office building and to draw all the 1:50 plans with the right circle, they needed to define the center point and the placement of the paper on the office floor.

The principle of avoiding it is pretty simple. You need to set up the project correctly from day one.

  1. Place the site in your modeling tool's positive x and y coordinates.
  2. Make sure the geometry is close to the absolute 0,0,0. So no coordinates with millions to avoid performance and accuracy issues.
  3. Place a reference geometry on a known geolocation.
  4. Export the IFC model with the georeference.
  5. Share this setup with every stakeholder from day one!

What's your experience? What did I forget?
