When I was at University studying about energy and the body, the current cutting edge thinking then was that only physical exercise, and the running of our bodily functions were the only things that used energy. Emotions definitely didn't use energy. Well that thinking was a million years ago!
Now we know that emotions have an enormous impact on the body . Candace Pert did groundbreaking research to prove this link in her amazing book called Molecules of Emotion. Our emotions have a physical impact on the body through the chemicals which get released as we experience emotion. You just need to tune in to your heart rate when you are anxious, to see that this is true.
So called "Negative" emotions can also drain the body of energy. So emotions like anxiety, anger, furstration, grief can exhaust you. So if you have experienced an emotionally trying time, and you feel exhausted, please don't override the exhaustiona and ignore it. This is what most of us do.
We need to see the mind, body and emotions as one unit- totally interrelated with each other. So what happens to our body affects our emotions and visa versa. So this means that when we are experiencing a tough time emotionally, it is likely to have an impact on our body- either through eg exhaustion, headaches, getting a dose of flu. Also, if we experience positive emotions, this can boost our energy levels, make us feel stronger and we can achieve better on the sports field.
When we experience chronic emotions ("negative emotions") this can have a very drastic effect on the body and result in chronic and serious deiseases. Did you know that emotions can be stored in every ssingle cell of the body, especialy if you have experienced a trauma, So how can we avoid this? By processing and releasing our emotions through talking them, sriting them, running them out, meditating, shouting into a pillow., yoga and nurturing yourself- you need to get them out of your body.
So in answer to the question heading this article- it is a resounding YES!
If you are a reader then the other 2 books I would recommend are Your Body speaks your Mind by Deb Shapiro, and When the body says No by Gabor Mate.
