?ukanovi?’s demagogy of the endangered state and patriotic mantra of eternal Montenegro are pushing the society towards a similar abyss over which the great America found itself in the final phase of Trump’s term of office
In order to avoid failure, Trump denies reality, say those who know him. “In his head, he didn’t lose,” says Jack O’Donnell, his former employee. “He will never admit defeat. He will always say: ‘They robbed me’!”
Our leader ?ukanovi? may be diagnosed in the same way. Since the Congress of the party, his obsession with the church and the patriarch’s position has not left him, and after the elections he keeps repeating – they robbed me. It is true that he uses other words, but he is essentially sending the same message – how he lost the elections due to Belgrade’s interference and due to the silence of the international community.
“Failure is not an option”, - this was written on the desk of a member of Trump’s staff inside the White House, as reported by the BBC. That motto best sums up Trump’s philosophy and his approach to the presidency.
We have the same problem with ?ukanovi?. His New Year’s video appearance, in declining health, with cracked voice and breathing difficulties, showed that defeat is not an option for him and that he will not give up the party until he has shut it down, which would certainly not make us sad were it not for the realization that in the private state he has built in the past 30 years, the fate of the country has been somewhat connected with his and the party’s fate. To some extent, I say. Certainly not to the extent that ?ukanovi? and propaganda want to present. Therefore, when the President, as he recently did, says “Do not defend Montenegro from me”, the answer should be – We have to!
“January 6 will go down as one of the darkest days in American history”, said Chuck Schumer, the Senate Democratic Leader, and then concluded: “This is a final warning to our nation about the consequences of a demagogic president, the people who enable him, the captive media that parrot his lies and the people who follow him as he attempts to push America to the brink of ruin”.
The same applies to ?ukanovi?’s politics. His demagogy of the endangered state and patriotic mantra of eternal Montenegro frantically used by propaganda and mercenaries, are pushing the society towards a similar abyss over which the great America found itself in the final phase of Trump’s term of office.
“Of most concern is the political fact that a significant portion of the Republican Party lives in a world of imagination, a place where facts and truth do not rule, where humiliating the opposition and critics is an end in itself, and where escaping reality is more an expression of tribal allegiance than mental illness”, Peter Vener, a columnist of the Atlantic and the New York Times, wrote the other day. With a harsh conclusion: “That leads the party and America itself to areas we have never been to before, even to the spectacle of the defeated president and his supporters who are persistently trying to steal the elections.”
The same applies to the DPS and Montenegro. ?ukanovi? has been working for years on cloning a party in which there is no room for minimal difference of opinion or dissonant tone. The thunderous announcement of rejuvenation of the DPS showed ?ukanovi?’s cynicism and cruelty, since he threw his young clones on the political scene, who have been competing in imitating the Leader, not only with gestures, but also in the way he behaves on the political scene. All of them, young and old, follow the Don, as well as the Republicans, until recently – some out of fear, others for career, some with enthusiasm, others keeping a stiff upper lip. That is why there is no uncertainty ahead of the DPS Congress – everything will remain the same, which means that the collapse of the party’s rating and influence will continue. Which is why the Serbian Orthodox Church and Vu?i? are rubbing their hands with glee.
The drama was taking place in waves, the BBC reports about the riot of Trump’s mob that demolished the Congress building and almost carried out a coup. Television cameras showed images of “rebels” dancing and waving flags on the steps of the Capitol. Photos and footage of rioters inside the building, posing in the offices of elected legislators or wearing pieces of furniture and interiors, have appeared on social networks. Neboj?a Medojevi? also appeared in the photomontages – finally in the Capitol building, although uninvited and in the company of Qanon’s shamans, an elite group of Trump’s conspiracy theorists, according to which a group of pedophiles who worship the devil entered the highest ranks of the American authorities. The same could have happened in our country on December 28. But ?ukanovi? and his DPS only performed a demonstration exercise in front of the House of Representatives. Earlier, the DF, whose shamans believed that the Serbs were a heavenly people doomed to defeat due to a conspiracy by the CIA and the Vatican, had a title to such celebrations of “democracy”. Now, ?ukanovi?’s most ardent fans are propagating something similar, let’s say that the devil entered the American ambassador who is spreading the rumors that Milo will take tanks out on Christians.
Here, too, we saw patriotic masses, wrapped in national flags and their representatives in the Assembly, who, like the Republicans and Trump, tell them that they love them, and then that they know how they feel because their country is in danger. Only Brano and his men with weapons they never carry, were missing. And we should believe that, because there was no need for that, since the police functioned as a private guard of the owner of the private state.
“We just had a violent mob assault the Capitol in an attempt to prevent us from carrying out our Constitutional duty”, as tweeted by Congresswoman Liz Cheney, one of the few in the Republican Party who did not give in to Trump’s demagoguery and conspiracy theories. “There is no question that the President formed the mob, the President incited the mob, the President addressed the mob”, she concluded.
The same is the case with ?ukanovi?, when he sends messages about the illegal actions of the new Government and Assembly and undermining the system and state institutions, and on the other hand keeps silent, therefore supports the obstruction of rights and laws by the captive SEC, which should now be confirmed by the captive Constitutional Court. Everything is reminiscent of Trump, who is raising an uprising due to the alleged theft of elections, while at the same time convincing the Secretary of State of Georgia by phone to somehow get him the 11,000 votes he needs to defeat his opponent. Enemies of democracy throughout history have often secured the greatest coups with the most tragic consequences by invoking the will of the people or the decisions of captive state institutions.
All this, of course, is accompanied by propaganda whose role is the most important, far ahead of that played by MPs or holders of judicial office. Oliver Darcy, CNN’s editor, describes Trump’s “pink” network as a “handful of cable channels (Fox, OAN, Newsmax), web pages (Gateway Pundit, Daily Wire, Breitbart) and radio presenters (Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin), who support their conspiracy theories and share them with millions. Thus Mark Levin, a well-known Fox presenter, on Sunday evening said: “Any Republican who does not stand up on Wednesday, January 6, will destroy the Constitution along with the Democrats”.
It is the same in Montenegro with ?ukanovi?’s propaganda. For days and weeks before the parliamentary session at which the amendments to the Law on Freedom of Religion were to be voted, CDM, RTCG, Pobjeda, Aktuelno and company, brutally targeted, one by one, the leader and MP of URA, in the same manner and using the same words as the quoted Levin, that if they pass the law, they will violate the Constitution, humiliate Montenegrins, betray the state. “When you weaken the usual ways of channeling violence, it then erupts in unlimited form and everywhere. When words lose their force, then power belongs to violence”. This is how a French sociologist explains a terrible crime in the town of Bayonne, in which the passengers in a city bus brutally killed the driver because he insisted on wearing masks!
?ukanovi? is now urging the Prime Minister and the government leaders to be fair, teaching them home education. And what has he done, in what style and language, for the past three decades to disable any dialogue, destroy the independent media and humiliate the critics and the opposition! Even if we forget about his early works from the 90’s, he says he was young and seduced by the Great Serbia ideology, what he demonstrated after the referendum, is material from which Trump, Orban, Erdogan and Vu?i? could learn. Instead of integrating society and creating a decent state, he spent a decade and a half persecuting and stigmatizing the "defeated" in the referendum and the incorruptible from the ranks of the "winners". Instead to, as Lincoln did after the American Civil War, “purify his heart and mind of anger and hatred towards his compatriots from the South,” ?ukanovi? was building his power that darkened his mind and narrowed, and now extinguished, his sense of empathy for the weak or the different. Physically we see a man spitting fire. A dangerous road that pushes Montenegro towards the abyss of possible conflicts and stumbles. Much more dramatic than those we saw on January 6 in and around the Capitol.
Therefore, when the President, as he recently did, says “Do not defend Montenegro from me”, the answer should be – WE HAVE TO!
