Do Connections Matter? You Bet They Do, But How Connected Are We Really?

Do Connections Matter? You Bet They Do, But How Connected Are We Really?

I have been a long time fan of photography and as I travel you will often find me capturing stills that encapsulate “the moment”. It’s incredible how one photo can speak to you, leave you with a feeling, or tell a complete story.?

In this LinkedIn newsletter, I wish to share interesting photography with you and tell unique stories that will hopefully speak to you.? I thought this would be 1000% more interesting than writing about what I do in merchant processing. =)?

I do hope you enjoy the stories, and would be honored for you to leave a comment and share some stories of your own.?

Interconnected

Here’s a photo I call “Gathering of Trees” I shot on the eastern shore of Annapolis just off the Chesapeake.?

We have known for over two decades that trees “talk” to each other. There have even been books written about it.

They use a network of soil fungi and their roots to communicate their needs and aid nearby plants. In this photo I was really interested in the “enclave” of branches, and how the network of branches that exist here is very consistent with the network of life that exists and permeates the entire universe.?

Pretty amazing, isn’t it?

So, if trees can do it….

Yes, We Can Too-And Have

Here’s an example. LinkedIn is a tool that we are using to connect with other human beings and grow our collective businesses. Enterprise occurs through these connections. This photo also represents that interconnectedness.?

There are many other ways this plays out. Think of how the meat from a cow in Iowa or the fish off the coast of Maine got on your dinner plate tonight. How about the new dishwasher you bought last week from your local appliance store-or ordered off Amazon?

That represents how our civilization has evolved. We have developed a system of specialties working together to render services to the populace. Services that put food on your plate, clothes on your back and laptops in your kids’ backpacks.?

It almost makes you think, “Thank God, I don't have to go out into the forest this afternoon to hunt for dinner tonight.”

And, by the way, do you know how the supermarket, the local appliance store or Amazon could process your payment for the goods you bought today?

There’s This Ecosystem….

There's an entire ecosystem, an electronic network, that operates behind the scenes. Think of the thousands upon millions of electronic payments that happen every day across the world.?

Just like the underground system of roots and fungi trees use to communicate.?
