Do not complicate your life with SEO for your blog

It's really worth doing a little bit of SEO work (really very little) because it will help a lot to position your content well in Google, but without complicating life.

Also, I have some very good news for you: as you will see in this series, in practice things are not so complicated, much less.

3 Basic principles of SEO in your blog

In the process of trying to achieve a good positioning of a blog, many things are learned. If I had to summarize the most important, what could be the "basic principles", I would cite these, in order of importance:

1. Do not obsess

Do not be obsessed with SEO, never sacrifice the naturalness of your content by SEO, is a big mistake that usually carries several negative consequences:

Dedicate an excessive time that is not justified by not producing results in the proportion that would correspond.

Do not dedicate that time to more important activities such as the generation of new content.

Let yourself be drawn to artificial actions (for example, an excessive density of keywords in a post) that makes the forced content seem to lose so attractive to the reader and could even be penalized by Google.

Regardless this may be a matter of taste and maybe I am wrong, I will not sacrifice the naturalness of content for a small SEO advantage.

2. Quality commands

The old principle that the best SEO is the quality of content remains fully valid.

Although nobody (except the Google team) knows the ins and outs of Googlebot , it seems clear that for a lot of bug they have released lately, the basic principles remain the same : what matters most is that people link you , the more best. And that demands quality content.

Of course, what has changed dramatically is that it is now much harder to fool Google with techniques Linkbuilding artificial. Google is much smarter at the moment of discerning if what is found is authentic or not and will act accordingly, although sometimes it also puts the paw thoroughly as you will see the next post of the series ...

Few blogs you can see very well in a curious phenomenon that is reproduced in a systematic way: posts that for many months hardly receive traffic (<5 visits) and suddenly, in a short time (2-3 months) multiply that Traffic (> 40-50 visits per day).

The own traffic that generate these links directly, but the other part is the increase of the traffic derived a better positioning in the searches, something that can be traced very well from the own statistics of WordPress or with tools like Tools For Google webmasters .

If you think about it a little bit is a simple matter of common sense . It is logical that it is only the content that stands out over the others that is accumulating links continuously and that when it is positioning increasingly better comes a moment that produces a "snowball" effect.

3. Keywords and thematic definition

As you can see in this post , a very typical error of bloggers is usually thematic dispersion , which also entails a great prejudice of the positioning of the blog since the keywords in which you want to position (your "niche") are not Clear.

That is, you make it difficult for Google to clearly identify the niches in which you are supposed to be more expert.

It is not the same to write a post trying to position it for the keywords " get followers Twitter " to write 5 or 10 posts focused on these same keywords (or similar). With this you will be giving very clear clues to Google and your readers of which are the main thematic lines of your blog.

You should do an exercise to clarify the ideas about what your thematic niches to work in an organized and conscious way in positioning in that niche in and not only by Google, but also so that your readers have clear expectations of what the content is They wait for you in your blog, which will make you visit more than if there are no clear expectations.

A good practice is to have, for example, a list of keywords in a document or spreadsheet in Google Docs (now Google Drive). As you create the content, for each post you will identify the keywords and annotating them in your list (as we will see in the last post of this series, these keywords are those that should appear in a systematic way in the title , subtitles and content Of the post ).

4. And now, let's get to work

I recommend you start with the thematic definition of your blog.

If you do not have a blog yet, meditate where you would like to position yourself and if you already have your blog in progress, review your content to analyze if you really have your topic well defined or not.

Try to locate a few sets of keywords related to your niche and reflect the best possible how an Internet user searches for content like yours.
