Leaders are an integral part of the development of an organization . With changing times , the relevance and the priority of styles of leadership is becoming challenging and tough. Organizations do have their separate style of following leadership as per their values and mind set . But what about the existing leaders ? or may be upcoming leaders who needs to be groomed for the next level . Though, majority of us think that Leadership is inborn , but few of the competencies need serious self accommodation in an individual , as few of the essentials of leaders are more of realization and act on that .
In a HBR article , I read something very interesting , that Leadership centers around DOMINANCE & PRESTIGE . Leading by DOMINANCE , is where one use their formal power by leveraging their organizational hierarchy , or power in an assertive manner , whereby leading with PRESTIGE is where the leader displays his knowledge and expertise and encourage others to follow. Dominant Leaders crave for power and thus they make their way through continuous performance based evaluation of their team members . They get their job done through appreciable means of motivation through incentives and promotions . They believe in reward and punishment method of approaching their team . Prestigious Leaders do work more as role models . They get more of admiration and respect from their followers . Comparatively , their thought process do not center around power and money , their appetite is more for name , respect and admiration.
An absolute leadership style is not possible . Situationally relating to the style is more prominent and practicable. Proper Leadership of Bosses , nowadays , relate to the situation they are in and how they react to the situation . How fast do they understand their reactive measures and respond to the situation is more important .
