?? Do It Anyway

?? Do It Anyway

Here are some recent snippets from my weekly review. Each week, I look back and record what I’ve been thinking, reading, and experiencing in the classroom and in my life. Learn. Do. Reflect. Do Better. Celebrate. Repeat.

  • Teaching can be an all-consuming job, but any time you can spare to pursue your passion projects and hobbies is well spent.
  • The world isn’t perfect, and some days it wears you down. You can either accept that, and face it, and be a help to others instead of a hindrance. Or you can decide the rules are too tough and they shouldn’t apply to you, and you can ignore them and make things harder for everybody else. Sometimes life is about being sad and doing things anyway. Sometimes it’s about being hurt and doing things anyway. The point isn’t perfection. The point is doing it anyway.” — Chloe Neill
  • Empathy is a skill that can be learned, and it’s contagious. It helps build a positive school culture and is good for your community.
  • If you don’t spend time defining yourself, you really won’t know what you want or what makes you happy.
  • The impact of pursuing hobbies and passions extends far beyond personal satisfaction. Research has documented an astounding 600 positive impacts from engaging in these activities. As teachers, when we invest in our personal growth and well-being, we become better equipped to inspire and guide our students.
  • Complaining doesn’t make things better. Express yourself, and then let it go and move on.
  • Teachers often find themselves juggling numerous responsibilities and thoughts. Journaling can be a powerful tool to help manage our busy lives, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Preparing to teach something really helps you clarify your thinking and understand what you’re talking about.
  • Engaging in activities you love boosts your mood and resilience and enhances your professional skills. It also fosters creativity and leadership abilities that directly benefit your classroom.

Here’s what I’ve been up to.
