DO AMERICANS STINK THAT MUCH?
Why are we being bombarded with deodorant advertising that extols the virtues of spraying the entire body with anti-smell chemicals?
Since when did we go from merely having smelly armpits to having stinky pits, feet, cracks, genitals, virtually every part of our anatomy?
I have lived for over seven decades and not once did I think my mere physical presence was making people around me gag or want to hold their nose to escape from an unpleasant odor I was giving off.
Do our bodies actually smell to the point of revulsion? Being in the marketing and advertising business I recognize the drive for businesses to constantly being on the look out for new product ideas or niches. I guess that someone, somewhere had the brilliant idea of taking deodorant and anti-perspirant out of the armpit arena and into the whole body. "Hey, if it can work under the arms why can't it work all over the body? All we have to do is convince enough people that they are exuding nasty smells from head to toe.
If spraying chemicals on your nether regions isn't harmful, and gives you peace of mind, why not? But why stop there? Why not "whole house" deodorant? Or "whole car interior" smell reducer? Or "whole restaurant" smell de-sensitizer? Or "whole florist shop" for anyone who can't stand the smell of nature? Or if you want to talk about eliminating a real stink, why not "whole hog" deodorant? Have you ever smelled a hog pen? Whoa!
Or here's an idea. Take a shower daily. Change underwear and socks. Gargle with mouthwash. In other words, cleanse thoroughly and you won't need a "whole" anything and can stop worrying about noxious scents emanating from any of your "holes".
