Do African employees want to work from home?

Recently have you noticed that many of your friends have made life-changing decisions, such as changing jobs or moving abroad? If so then it's not just a coincidence. Millions of people were impacted by the pandemic. As we return back to "normal" one thing is clear. People have changed their views on how, when, and where they work. In effect, the office as we know it needs to evolve to meet these new needs. The question we ask ourselves at Spacefinish is how these needs translate to African businesses and their employees.

Recently, we were approached by a Management Consulting firm that was struggling to adjust their existing workspace for a hybrid work mode where some employees are in the office a few days a week, while others work remotely, and the rest work out of their client's site! As you can imagine this posed a challenge for their workplace strategy and made their existing +2,000 Sqm office space ineffective.

To solve this problem, Spacefinish partnered with Steelcase, a Fortune 500 company and global leader in workplace strategy.

Both Spacefinish and Steelcase research teams performed discovery exercises with the Management Consulting firm, which involved understanding their business needs and objectives. We then created a bespoke solution that incorporated the latest workplace trends and insights.

66% of people want to work in the office for a majority of the month, 34% of people want to continue to work from home.

Following our discovery process, we provided design solutions that achieved the following:

1. Reduced their office footprint from 2,000 Sqm to less than 500 Sqm without losing core functionality.
2. Optimized real estate costs through major savings on leasable space.?
3. Increased engagement through space design principles that prioritizes people connection.
