Do these 3 things to get back control of your day

Many of my clients struggle with overwhelm and lack of control.

They tell me they want more balance in their lives and I ask them what that would look like for them.?I'm usually met with silence at this point.

I want to share some quick and easy things you can start doing now that will help you take back control and find your balance.?Are you in?

The first thing I want you to think about is distraction.

In today’s world of on-demand services and instant access, people are presented with more distractions than ever, making it a challenge to stay focused on tasks, personal goals, and more.

If you struggle to determine what’s causing you to feel distracted, consider some of the following common distractors people find themselves battling each day:

●???Constant access to updates on social media and other technology

●???A regular supply of on-demand television shows and movies via streaming services

●???Increased stress and pressure at work, especially during the pandemic

●???Demands from friends, family, and coworkers for your attention and assistance

●???A huge variety of options and choices for nearly every aspect of your life

….and that's only naming a few! You can likely identify with most (if not all) of the examples listed above. In a world that values quick, easy access to information, entertainment, and resources, it’s easy to become distracted from what truly deserves your attention.

Once you find your attention wandering, getting yourself refocused can feel impossible. Fortunately, there are some tips and tricks you can use to get yourself back on track whenever you feel your attention waning.

1.??Remove unnecessary distractions from your work environment. This includes turning off the TV and putting your phone aside (if needed, you can even put your phone in a different room if the temptation to scroll is too strong).

2.??Break down large tasks into multiple smaller ones. For example, if you've just been given a new project to lead, it can feel a bit like climbing a mountain.?Start by breaking it down into small, bite-sized chunks with clear timeframes and impact, then focus on working through them in prioritised steps.??

3.??Start your day with your more challenging or attention-required tasks. Knock out the harder tasks first – this allows you to spend more of your attention on the tough stuff immediately.

What are you going to try today?

Love it Gail. Instant messaging - although very effective for communication - is another huge distraction in the working day. I find I need to block out time in my calendar each day when I can focus on priorities, and switch off notifications.
