Dnyaneshwar Mauli, Vithai Mauli

Sant Dnyaneshwar was born in 1275 (on the auspicious day of Krishna Janmashtami) in a Marathi speaking Deshastha Brahmin family in Apegaon village on the bank of Godavari river near Paithan in Maharashtra India during the reign of the Yadava king Ramadevarava. At age 12, Dnyaneshwar with his impoverished and outcaste siblings, went to Paithan to plead mercy from Paithan priests. There, they were insulted and ridiculed. As the children were suffering the bullying, on a nearby road was a man who was violently lashing an old buffalo, and the injured animal collapsed in tears.

Dnyaneshwar asked the buffalo owner to stop out of concern for the animal. The priests ridiculed him for being more concerned about a beast and unconcerned about the teachings of the Vedas. Dnyaneshwar retorted that the Vedas themselves held all life to be sacred and a manifestation of the Brahman. The outraged priests pointed out that his logic implied that beasts should be able to learn the Vedas as well. An undeterred Dnyaneshwar then placed his hand on the buffalo's forehead and it started reciting a Vedic verse in a deep voice.

In another miracle, Dnyaneshwar was challenged by Changdev, an accomplished yogi who rode on a tiger with his magical powers, to replicate this feat. Dnyaneshwar humbled Changdev by riding on a moving wall. Dnyaneshwar advice to Changdev was given in 65 verses called the Changdev Pasasthi. Changdev became a disciple of Dnyaneshwar's sister Muktabai. Dnyaneshwar On the 13th day of the dark half of the Kartik month of the Hindu Calendar, in Alandi, Dnyaneshwar, then was twenty one year old entered into Sanjeevan samadhi. His samadhi lies in the Siddhesvara Temple complex in Alandi. Namdev and other bystanders grieved his passing. According to tradition, Dnyaneshwar was brought back to life to meet Namdev when the latter prayed to Vithoba for his return. Critics write that this testifies to the immortality of genuine friendship and companionship of noble and loving hearts. Many Varkari devotees believe that Dnyaneshwar is still alive.

Saint Dnyaneshwar, as I know through readings, was learned saint at early age. He received all his knowledge through his elder brother Nivruttinath. There is ample evidence to believe that he was saint with all respect. For example writing critical summary on Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta at tender age of 18 is not child's play, Also I suppose there is an evidence to believe that miracles like moving the wall happened in reality as the wall is still there which was moved. Regarding ox reciting vedas, it was necessary to prove to the society who literally thrown 4 children out of the society. Miracles, who ever has done, can only happen in case one is truly moved his soul towards God.

Those acts performed by Dnyaneshwar Mauli were not just symbolic, they were true performance of higher occult. Now obviously we in modern society do not digest it because we want scientific proof. Well nothing wrong in this perception. Dnyandev & his siblings belonged to a very powerful yogic lineages. In realm of yoga getting mastery over materials, immobile objects & commanding animals is not new,but definitely these are highest summit of yogic world. There are many other things could be performed by well advance yogis, common examples are reading someone's thought, telepathy, visions and etc.

Now here one thing is very sure no learned yogi would do these things, just for sake of fun.Because nature have very strict rules and yogi is nothing but an accomplished son of mother nature. By the perspective of Dnyandev it was only make other yogi or some stubborn people to understand what his level was . It's quite interesting to observe that though the Dyandev & other siblings were accomplished yogis they never propagated the yogic path but they proposed & directed the Bhakti way of life . That too eliminating the dark & superstitious practices of that time. Time was different then time is different now. Human mind has very simple tendency when it doesn't comprehend it discards very few can escape this tendency sometimes even I also get trapped into it. Dnyaneshwar Mauli

Kishore --Excellent post on Dnyaneshwar, the Mahayogi. His humility and compassion were only comparable to Buddha. His Sanjeevan samadhi was highly unique. He could appear in a vision before Saint Eknath 400 years later and invited him to meet him .Eknath could enter the place of Samadhi and greet him. This was the greatest miracle of those times.
