I wanted to share some insights on DNS verification for Google Search Console, as it can be a bit tricky for those who are new to it. DNS verification is a method that allows you to prove ownership of your domain to Google, which is essential for managing your site's presence in search results.
Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
- Sign in to Google Search Console: Start by logging into your Google Search Console account. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to create it.
- Add a Property: Click on the “Add Property” button and enter your website URL. Make sure to choose the correct format (http vs. https).
- Choose the DNS Verification Method: After entering your site, you'll be taken to a verification method screen. Select the “Domain” option for DNS verification.
- Get the TXT Record: Google will provide you with a TXT record that you need to add to your domain's DNS settings. This will usually look something like: google-site-verification=xxxxxxxxxxxx.
- Access Your Domain Host: Log into your domain hosting provider (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.) and locate the DNS management section.
- Add the TXT Record: In the DNS settings, add a new TXT record. Paste the TXT record provided by Google into the appropriate field, and save your changes.
- Verify Ownership: Go back to Google Search Console and click the “Verify” button. This may take a few minutes for the DNS changes to propagate, so don’t panic if it doesn’t work immediately.
- Confirmation: Once verification is successful, you’ll see a confirmation message. You can now access all the features in Google Search Console related to your site!
