DND on WhatsApp is possible?

Brands have adopted WhatsApp commerce for a reason.

Today, WhatsApp is not just an alternative to SMS but a need that cannot be uninstalled.

No matter what you’d say about WhatsApp, it’s hard to get off this platform because of the service it provide without having any competition in the majority of countries.

This made WhatsApp craft a revenue model, of course, a business incurs an operational cost that needs to cover.

And WhatsApp came up with an idea - if they charge users, they may experience a downward trend in consumer base; hence, they replicated what their parent company is doing differently.

That is, never charge consumers, also charge service providers to the consumer.

And that's how WhatsApp commerce was born.

I assume WhatsApp commerce is probably a future and upgraded version of e-commerce.

No more e-commerce but WhatsApp commerce.

Initially, it saw a hit among D2C service providers, but now it complements B2C and B2B.

Having said that, there is an increase in spam messages on WhatsApp, which is not welcome by users who want to use WhatsApp spam free and with end-to-end security.

Now, this is letting users talk about two things:-

  1. How to block spam beforehand, just like DND.
  2. If it is end-to-end encrypted, why are people still receiving targeted promotional content from platforms they never shared their WhatsApp number with?

That creates the need for DND, which probably is the onset of the demand for the DND features on WhatsApp.

For the past one or two years, you have observed a surge in WhatsApp messages from brands you follow, inquire about, and consume.

More or less, brands are already notifying us over email and SMS, and this third medium is just an act to stay on top of the mind.

Only the medium changed, and the objective remained the same.

We’re instilled with the notion of better technology, and so are brands catapulting to adopt.

Then comes a prudent question.

Do we need brands to notify on WhatsApp, they’re still in connection with us via emails and SMS services anyway, why do they want WhatsApp?

It is just because over WhatsApp, a consumer can interact much more easily, remain updated, and effectively stay on top of the mind.

An example of this evolution is - first came banking, then phone banking, followed by mobile banking, and now WhatsApp banking.

The medium has changed over time, but the objective remains the same.

Are you finding it cool to receive brands' messages on WhatsApp?
