DMWF North America: Speaker Q&A, Ken Gibbs – Lead Digital Consultant, DiasDi LLC
1) Please can you introduce yourself and provide a brief history of your digital marketing journey?
I'm a digital content marketer who began my career in the startup?scene in Cambridge, MA over 25 years ago with Henry Louis Gates at Africana.com.? Shortly after we were acquired by Time Warner, they were acquired by Aol, which put me at the heart of the start of digital content. Since then I've had a chance to grow and lead teams creating impactful content and campaigns for some of media's biggest brands, including ViacomCBS, Prime Video, Spotify and more. Today?I work with small brands and individuals to create sustainable strategies to help achieve their goals across website and social?media platforms.??
2) What aspects of the ‘Creating content which connects with your audience’ session at DMWF North America on the 26-27 September, are you most excited about as a speaker?
I'm most?excited to discuss how these leaders from different industries are considering whether generative AI is in a position to contribute to their content creation needs in the next quarter, as well as hearing what challenges they're facing in getting their content to cut through the increasing noise digital marketers are fighting to make meaningful connections with customers through their content.??
3) Which project from the past year stands out as your proudest achievement?
(N/A, as I can't speak on the work I've done for clients)
4) What marketing advancement and trend are you most enthusiastic about in the digital marketing landscape?
I'm most enthusiastic about how AI will empower entrepreneurs to be more creative in their digital marketing campaigns. All businesses are using creative content of some sort to engage their target audiences across digital platforms, but creative is generally cost prohibitive for small businesses.? Perhaps they can afford to engage a creative resource once or twice, but few have the budget for the creative supply needed in today's always on culture.? I think generative AI may help small business do more with a toolkit they might get from a traditional engagement with a creative resource.
5) What single piece of advice would you give to a friend working in the digital marketing space?
Prepare for change.? It's what this industry is built on.??
6) Lastly, could you share what is your favorite marketing campaign and why it resonates with you?
All things Barbie.? How Mattel used a combination of on and off-line tactics to generate conversation across social media, bringing new life to old IP across generations and genders, was nothing short of amazing.? It's the best example of how so much old IP has untapped value that can be realized by new digital marketing tactics.?
