DMGroup Spotlight on Accelerated Learning
Accelerating learning was cited as the top priority in our survey of 200 superintendents and district leaders prior to our 2024 Superintendents’ Strategy Summit. Given the significant learning loss during the pandemic, this came as little surprise. Elementary reading scores and math across all grades remain well below 2019 levels.
?The bright spot is that meaningful progress in reading and math achievement is being realized with the DMGroup’s Breakthrough Results (BTR) Program.
At the Superintendents’ Strategy Summit, district leaders from Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, and Rhode Island shared their success in improving student outcomes in ELA and math and building the leadership capability of teachers and staff. Here we share a couple of results presented at the conference.
Successfully Raising Reading Achievement at Dallas ISD (TX)
In just 10 weeks in spring 2023, Dallas ISD’s participating 2nd graders increased their reading fluency by an average of 28 words per minute. The BTR Program, which incorporated focused goals, progress monitoring, rapid action cycles, performance coaching, and targeted professional development, exceeded expectations.

Due to strong results, Dallas ISD has expanded its literacy and math Breakthrough Results programs in the 2023-24 school year and increased the number of participating teams from four to an impressive 110!

Measurable Improvements in Math Achievement at Birmingham City Schools (AL)
Participating third graders across 20 Birmingham City Schools schools improved by 37% on ACAP-aligned math achievement standards in just ten weeks. These amazing results were achieved in spring 2023 with the Breakthrough Results (BTR) program. Learn more.
In the 2023-24 school year, Birmingham City Schools expanded the BTR program from 20 to 112 teams, and added literacy in addition to math programs!
