DMGroup Spotlight
The new school year is a time filled with excitement and anticipation of a fresh start. As we begin the new year, it is critically important to focus on enrollment and attendance and ensure students are back in the classroom to learn and make up for the years of disrupted learning.?
?Since SY20, enrollment in US public pre-K-12 schools has declined by 2.6% and continues to drop, affecting district budgets, initiatives, infrastructure, and staffing. By last year, the estimated 8 million students who were chronically absent pre-pandemic had doubled to an estimated 16 million, or about 33 percent of students nationwide.
As enrollment and attendance challenges continue, how can districts strategically address this new reality?
?In this Spotlight newsletter, we share DMGroup's proven strategies and practices to ensure successful enrollment and bring students back to school.

CASE STUDY: Windham Public Schools (CT) Tackles Chronic Absenteeism
Absenteeism has been a persistent challenge for Windham Public Schools (WPS) , where approximately 18% of students miss 18 or more days of school. Dr. Pat Garcia, Superintendent of WPS partnered with DMGroup's strategic partner EveryDay Labs ?to address this critical problem.
Using student attendance data, EveryDay Labs identified 743 students at risk of becoming chronically absent, just over 20% of the student population, and mailed three rounds of personalized Absence Reports to students' parents/guardians on behalf of the school district over a spring semester.
The reports didn’t just mention how many days their student had been absent; they made families aware of how their student’s attendance compared to that of a typical classmate and emphasized the importance of school attendance.
