DMGroup Spotlight

Accelerating learning is top of mind for district leaders amid a significant "learning loss" among students as a consequence of the pandemic. The challenge of catching up is made even more complex by the fact that learning gaps have widened along racial and socioeconomic lines.

?At DMGroup’s 2023 Superintendents’ Strategy Summit, district partners shared their stories of success in accelerating learning for their students. This DMGroup Spotlight shares highlights from their presentations.

Dramatic Improvements in Third-Grade Literacy at East Baton Rouge Parish School System (LA)

Many of East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s third-graders had been struggling with reading since kindergarten due to the disrupted learning caused by the pandemic. In the fall of 2022, the district took focused action to improve the reading fluency of their most at-risk third-grade students.?

?In just 10 weeks, the reading fluency of their most at-risk third graders increased by 33% and closed the gap with the average third grader in the district. “The results were astounding!” said Shenoa Warren, Chief of Literacy at EBR.??

How did the district get these incredible results? It was their teachers and staff who achieved these results by using their existing curriculum!

So what was the secret sauce? Highly focused goals, frequent progress monitoring, rapid-cycle approach, performance coaching, and just-in-time professional development through DMGroup’s Breakthrough Results program.?
