DMGroup Spotlight on Special Education Opportunity Review

DMGroup Spotlight on Special Education Opportunity Review

The achievement gap between students with and without disabilities has been a persistent challenge for the vast majority of districts across the country. While data is still emerging, indications are that the pandemic has disproportionately hurt students with disabilities.?Now more than ever, it is essential to improve support for over 7 million public school students - about 15% - who receive special education services to learn and thrive.

At DMGroup, we have helped school districts nationwide provide effective support for students in special education , including West Feliciana Parish Schools (LA), Chelmsford Public Schools (MA), and Community Unit School District 300 (IL), to name a few. In this newsletter, we share our strategic approach and examples of our work.

If your district is in need of high-impact, actionable strategies to improve outcomes for students in special education, contact us to discuss how we can support you.

CASE STUDY: Strengthening Special Ed and MTSS at North Shore School District (IL)

North Shore School District 112 (NSSD112), a high-performing, well-resourced district, had been working diligently to strengthen its supports for students in special education; but gaps in achievement levels for these students persisted, as they do in so many other districts across the country.

NSSD112 sought to analyze how they could better support their students in special education and embarked on a Special Education Opportunity Review with DMGroup.

The in-depth analysis of current practices identified specific opportunities for improvement. Moreover, it pointed to a need for a broader Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) that would better support not only students with disabilities but all students.
