?? DJ Carbunk1e feat. CBlockDis, Tamer of Lions - Pong "bLEEps and BlooPs"
Newcomers DJ Carbunk1e, CBlockDis, and Tamer of Lions have revolutionized video game music! Thanks to their groundbreaking submission arranging the sound effects from Atari's arcade classic Pong, we've decided that just ReMixing in-game sound effects is a legit form of VGM arrangement! To celebrate this tectonic shift in OCR's post-djp era, you have to read every bit of DJ Carbunk1e's treatise regarding this thought-provoking collage of sound, a redefining of just what video game music was, is, and can be. The text might be a lil' bigger -- just, I dunno, read up... it's meaningful, don't question a revolution:
"Inspiration:
The genesis of "bLEEPs and BlooPs" emerged from a nexus of nostalgia, innovation, and personal introspection. As DJ Carbunk1e, I found myself drawn to the timeless simplicity of Pong's gameplay -- a foundational pillar in the evolution of video games. Its rhythmic exchanges and minimalist design served as a poignant reminder of childhood innocence, prompting a desire to encapsulate its essence within our music. Alongside the immensely talented CBlockDis and the enigmatic "Tamer of Lions", we embarked on a collaborative odyssey to breathe new life into the iconic sounds of Pong, infusing them with our unique perspectives and lived experiences.
Notable Parts of the Score:
The composition of "bLEEPs and BlooPs" is a multifaceted tapestry woven from a myriad of sonic textures and emotive expressions. At its core lies CBlockDis's orchestration piece -- a masterful exploration of melody and harmony that pays homage to the legacy of video game music. The orchestral elements evoke a sense of grandeur and depth, transporting listeners to realms both familiar and uncharted. My role in arranging the music was to bridge the gap between CBlockDis's classical influences and my own electronic sensibilities. Drawing upon my background in psytrance, I crafted pulsating basslines and intricate rhythms that interwove seamlessly with the orchestral motifs, creating a sonic fusion that defies traditional boundaries.
Story of Inspiration:
Each facet of "bLEEPs and BlooPs" is infused with personal narratives, reflecting the depth and complexity of our individual experiences. CBlockDis's orchestration piece draws inspiration from a tapestry of emotions, from moments of triumph and jubilation to instances of heartache and introspection. His compositions serve as a canvas upon which the raw essence of human emotion is painted, capturing the fragility and resilience of the human spirit in equal measure.

In my contributions to the score, I sought to channel the tumultuous journey of self-discovery and personal growth. The driving basslines and pulsating rhythms serve as a testament to the relentless pursuit of passion and purpose, echoing the tumultuous rhythm of life itself. Each note and melody is imbued with the echoes of my own struggles and triumphs, a sonic reflection of the myriad emotions that course through the human experience.
Meanwhile, "Tamer of Lions" brings a unique perspective to the composition, recording himself as he reflects on the evolution of video game music. His spoken-word piece serves as a poignant reminder that what was once dismissed as mere "bleeps and bloops" has evolved into a complex and dynamic art form that continues to inspire and captivate audiences around the world. His words are a testament to the enduring legacy of Pong and its profound impact on the cultural landscape of gaming.
Collaborative Synergy:
The collaborative process was a crucible for creativity, as we melded our individual perspectives and talents into a cohesive whole. Through hours of experimentation and improvisation, we discovered a symbiotic relationship that transcended the confines of individual expression. Each artist brought their unique strengths to the table, pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation in pursuit of a shared vision.
In the studio, the energy crackled with excitement and anticipation as we explored new sonic territories and unearthed hidden depths within ourselves. Ideas flowed freely, each one building upon the last to create a sonic tapestry that was greater than the sum of its parts. As we experimented with different sounds and textures, we found ourselves tapping into a collective consciousness -- a shared reservoir of creativity that fueled our artistic endeavors.
In conclusion, "bLEEPs and BlooPs" stands as a testament to the transformative power of music and the enduring legacy of video game culture. By drawing inspiration from the timeless appeal of Pong and infusing it with personal narratives and contemporary influences, we have crafted a transcendent work of art that resonates on multiple levels. As the echoes of our creation reverberate through the digital ether, we invite listeners to join us on a journey of sonic exploration, guided by the rhythmic pulse of a game long past but never forgotten."
So deep, but truly poignant. I don't mean to bring drama into these writeups, but judge MindWanderer rejected this on a technicality, denying this innovation a clean sweep despite its obvious Submissions Standards-altering quality. Ridiculous. I'll just be blunt: sometimes people don't realize what they have until it's too late. Gario, on the other hand, stopped being a stickler and stepped into modernity:
"Oh sh*t, childhood defining, much? More like this defined everyone's childhood, 'cause we wouldn't have video games without this bad boy! Glad this classic is getting the attention it deserves, at long last.
The eye-opening quality of this track has collectively made the judges panel see the error of those SFX-and-voices-as-source-tune-denying ways, so we'll be re-adding the removed Half-Life: Counter-Strike ReMixes ("Go! Go! Go!") within the month, along with other callously removed ReMixes of the past. Read the judges votes closely, see how Gario, Flexstyle, Chimpazilla, and Rexy have all moved our thinking of what the art from of VGM is to that next level, a more open-minded view of what OC ReMix needs to allow. This track rocks, it ties into Pong's seminal SFX as the foundation of the arrangement, and it sounds like a galaxy-brain level take on Pong in space, perhaps even worthy of Pong: The Movie, thanks to CBlockDis's orchestration.
DJ Carbunk1e, CBlockDis, and Tamer of Lions, we tip our paddle to you. FINALLY, with this OC ReMix, video game music has stepped into the arena of real music...
