DIY Gone Wrong

Here's something I'd never seen before: Someone built this great bench storage unit in a basement room, but built it backed into the crawlspace with nothing but plywood lying directly on the moist soil. The bottom boards aren't nailed or attached at all! The wood has been absorbing all this ground moisture and now there's a mold problem. BTW This was discovered mere HOURS before closing on the house. It was missed during the home inspection because the storage units were full of belongings. Now the buyer is holding off on the final sale until it is known to be safe.
