DIY Aircraft Interior
I received a lot of positive feedback for my last homebuilt Waiex update. Thought I would share an older update on my interior. For this project I taught myself to sew on an new-old machine that had been dormant in the basement for a couple of decades. I designed the patterns, pinned them together, and sewed them up. I could have bought a factory interior, but I saved about $600 doing it myself. The full interior came in at 6.5 lbs total, which is not too bad. In aviation, weight is the enemy. My company, Collins Aerospace, has a division that does aircraft interiors. I am curious if any of my co-workers in that division is doing any of this sort of work for themselves.
One of the great things about building an airplane is all the skills you either get to learn or refresh yourself on. You can only learn so much from a desk or from sitting in front of a computer. Hands-on experience brings real value back into the workplace.
