The firecrackers, the family get-togethers, tons of food, and loads of fun; building core memories is what Diwali means for all of us.
Diwali also means road trips for a bunch living away from their hometowns. With this surge in traffic comes a heightened risk of road accidents, making road safety during Diwali crucial.
Additionally, the irresponsible use of firecrackers during Diwali also contributes to unsafe road conditions, making the need for road safety measures even more critical.
Before we delve into Diwali-specific road safety, it's important to consider the broader road safety landscape in India.
Before we delve into Diwali-specific road safety, it's important to consider the broader road safety landscape in India.
According to The Economic Times stating FICCI-EY report, India accounts for approximately 11% of global road traffic deaths.
Road infrastructure, traffic management, and driver behavior all contribute to these alarming statistics. A comparison of data by the Times of India shows that in 2022 the country saw a jump of nearly 9% in terms of fatalities as compared to 2021 and around 11.5% increase in deaths more than the deaths in 2019
Rush Hour Traffic:
The days leading up to Diwali witnessed a massive influx of travelers, leading to overcrowded roads and increased accident risks.
The Booze Factor:
Festive celebrations often involve alcohol consumption, resulting in a higher risk of drunk driving and accidents.
Lack of Rest:
Long journeys and late-night drives are common during Diwali, causing driver fatigue and decreasing alertness.
Overloaded Vehicles:
Many people overload their vehicles with passengers and gifts, affecting vehicle stability and handling.
Firework Hazards:
Diwali's fireworks are a highlight of the festival, but irresponsible use on roads can lead to accidents and fires.
As we gear up for Diwali, let's prioritize safety while celebrating. The festivals are about joy and togetherness, and Ladwa Solutions Inc. empowers us to celebrate responsibly.
By planning ahead, avoiding risky behaviors like drunk driving, and utilizing safety equipment, you can ensure that your Diwali and every day are free from accidents.
● Carry a portable fire extinguisher as there are many people who burn firecrackers on the roads.
● Roll up the windows while driving so that no rockets or sparks enter while also protecting you from smoke and the noises from the firecrackers.

● Carry a first aid kit in your vehicle. It is helpful and advised to carry a first aid kit, especially during Diwali travels as there is more risk therefore more chances of injuries.
● Always keep your speed under control when visibility is poor. Always be aware of the posted speed limit so as to have control over your vehicle.
● Keep a secure distance if you notice firecrackers being lit on the roads. Stop till the firecrackers are lit off and then move forward. Do not try to recklessly rush past the cracker.
● Do not drive while intoxicated. Impaired by alcohol or drugs is one of the major reasons for accidents, not just during Diwali. Avoid driving any vehicle while drunk or under the influence of any drugs.
● Organize your trip, plan the route, and arrive early rather than rushing at the end moment. Avoid rush hours and if you drive at night, do so patiently.
● Check the parts of your car before you head on for the journey. Take a quick check of lights, breaks, tires, and other systems. Do not forget to check the spares. You do not want to be driving around with underinflated tires
