Diwali

The Festival of Lights, DiwaliOne of the most important festival in India and among Indian populations around the world is Diwali, sometimes called Deepavali. Known as the "Festival of Lights," this colourful and exuberant event represents the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

Diwali is observed over five days, each with special customs and meanings.

Dhanteras: The festival starts on this day, which is devoted to prosperity and fortune. To welcome Lakshmi, people light lights, clean their homes, and purchase gold, silver, or kitchenware.

On Naraka Chaturdashi, also known as Chhoti Diwali, Lord Krishna is said to have vanquished the monster Narakasura. As they get ready for the main Diwali celebrations, people burn oil lamps.

Diwali (Lakshmi Puja): Light diyas (lamps), decorate homes with rangoli, light fireworks, and offer prayers to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on this major day. Families share happiness and success by exchanging gifts and candies.

Govardhan Puja: This festival commemorates the day that Lord Krishna raised Mount Govardhan to shield his followers from a tempest. People revere nature and provide food offerings.

Bhai Dooj: A day of special prayers and communal meals, Bhai Dooj marks the end of the festival and honours the relationship between brothers and sisters.

The Diwali Eco-Friendly Movement

An increasing number of people are trying to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly way these days. To limit pollution and trash, people are choosing eco-friendly decorations, using fewer firecrackers, and using organic rangoli powders.

Diwali is a celebration of principles that unite people—love, light, and prosperity—rather than just a festival. Its timeless significance serves as a reminder to uphold these principles, which promotes joy and optimism in our lives. We reaffirm our dedication to a more promising and peaceful future as we light up our homes and hearts on Diwali.
