Once upon a time, in the bustling city of Chennai, a young boy named Arjun eagerly awaited Diwali each year. Like all the children in his neighborhood, he dreamed of bursting the brightest and loudest fireworks that lit up the night sky.
One year, just before Diwali, Arjun ran to his father with excitement, saying, “Dad, can we buy lots of crackers this time? I want the biggest ones that make the loudest sounds!”
His father, a wise man who believed in teaching valuable lessons, smiled and replied, “Arjun, do you know that during Diwali, the prices of crackers skyrocket?”
Arjun was puzzled. “Why, Dad? Aren’t crackers the same throughout the year?”
His father explained, “Yes, but it’s all about ‘demand and supply.’ During Diwali, everyone wants to buy crackers. When demand is high, sellers increase prices because they know people will still buy them. So, the crackers you buy on Diwali could cost much more than on any other day.”
Arjun, still hopeful, asked, “But, Dad, we could buy them before Diwali, right?”
His father chuckled, “Yes, we could. But think about it—why spend money on something that disappears in a flash and leaves smoke and pollution behind? Instead, we can enjoy the fireworks from our terrace, watching the beautiful display without spending a single rupee! By doing so, we not only save money but also help keep our environment cleaner and quieter.”
Little Arjun thought deeply about his father’s words. Not only was he learning about money and making smart choices, but also about being mindful of their surroundings.
Years went by, and soon Arjun became a father to two lovely children, Veena and Rishi. As Diwali approached, they eagerly asked, “Dad, can we buy crackers for Diwali?”

Arjun smiled, remembering his own childhood and the lesson his father taught him. He sat them down and shared the story. “When I was your age, I also wanted lots of crackers. But your grandfather taught me an important lesson. Crackers are more expensive during Diwali because everyone wants them. But we don’t need to spend on them. Instead, we can watch the beautiful fireworks from a distance and enjoy the view without adding to the noise and pollution.”
He added, “By choosing not to burst crackers, we’re also contributing to a cleaner environment. The smoke from crackers is harmful to the air we breathe and the animals around us. Watching fireworks from afar helps keep our Earth a bit cleaner and greener.”
Veena and Rishi listened carefully, understanding the wisdom behind their father’s words. That Diwali, they chose to watch the fireworks from their terrace, enjoying the dazzling colors in the sky without spending a penny or harming the environment.
From then on, their family celebrated Diwali with lights, sweets, and moments of love, knowing their choice was a gift to the city and the Earth.
And so, the wisdom of their grandfather lived on, teaching them the value of money, wise choices, and caring for the world around them.
The End.
