Divorce: Separate Property by Gift

DIVORCE. Pointer: Did you know that any property given to a party by a family member (mom, dad, aunt, uncle, etc.) is separate property ....not marital property for the purpose of equitable distribution. Therefore, not eligible for claims of the other spouse. This includes money, real estate and personal effects...as long as they are not commingled by jointly titling them.
