On Friday November 6th, 2020 I was fortunate enough to host a webinar with the help of members from the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Diving Australia and Fusion Sport. We chronicled Diving's' Athlete Management System (AMS) journey and spoke in detail about how they were able to increase Diving coaches engagement with AMS.
Planning training sessions is crucial. Ensuring the drills prescribed align with the mirco/macro development goals and meet loading considerations is a tough thing to do. Coaches are such an important part of the organisation, especially from a cultural perspective, so creating a valuable and user friendly experience for them is crucial. In collaboration with lead Diving coaches, the AIS completely replaced the then paper based system with a completely digital platform.
By creating a library of sessions and a database of drills, the Diving coaches are saving a huge amount of time creating sessions. In addition they are able to share these sessions and drills with other coaches in the network.
Once the session is created by the coach, it is funneled out to the Session Reporting Dashboard which is a digital or pdf copy of the session for the coach to reference during practice. Whether remote or in person, athletes are then able to view the session on their mobile AMS app and provide feedback on the session (RPE, and/or session comments). This creates a holistic view point of the session which has been of extreme benefit for coach and athlete alike. Having this positive feedback loop pushed further engagement from all users, especially the sport science teams who benefit from said data.
Ady Hinchliffe speaks on the power of this positive feedback loop. Once Diving coaches were more engaged, they became more interested in the system as a whole and providing ideas for other dashboards like injury tracking, wellness monitoring and load management.
Special thanks to Michael Hetherington and Ady Hinchliffe from Diving Australia, and Ian Morrow and Owen McLean from the Australian Institute of Sport.
