Dividends - August Payment Dates from Diverse, Quality Corporate Plays
Dividends?are an interesting component of the benefits an investor can enjoy over his investing experience.
I've had investor clients of mine emphasize the importance of dividends to them, expressed to me many years ago; only to abort that value for dividends they previously held, for their priority of share price appreciation, over the process of their investing experience.
Please make no mistake:?Dividend income can, and does make a difference - for investors.?It can provide a stream of relatively stable cash-flow income, that is a more defensive-type component, compared to the more 'offensive' or 'growth' type component of share price movements.
This is Conservative, and it is good.
It never ceases to amaze me how many investors chose to not be cognizant of their 'dividend-cash-flow-machine' they can have working for them.
On the other hand, I find it wonderful when I talk to other, dividend-focused investors who know exactly the dollar amount of dividend income they have well in place from their aggregate accounts, whether that be "$425,000;" "$1.2 Million;"?"$40,000;"?or some other total amount of annual dividend income each investor can have well in place, working for them, regardless of the ups and downs of their equity and fixed income securities they own.?
We must remember that dividend and income payments from publicly-listed corporations we own, are paying out dividend income to their shareholders for good reason:?to make up for competing investment opportunities that are paying little to no dividend income, and that are using their capital, not as a 'sweetener' to 'reward' or 'thank' investors for their subscriptions of their shares, but to best and optimally grow the corporation's business prospects going forward. They invest capital back into their business.
On the other hand, as in one case noted?below, a company may pay dividends as a 'one-off' ("extra;" "special" dividends) or even as such, repeatedly,?to 'share' some of their outstanding strength of quarterly profits, with their shareholders.
In general, quality dividend payors, especially larger dividend-payors, tend to be more 'slow-growth' corporate names; not always the case; but generally so.
And the other quality corporate names that pay little to no dividend payments to their shareholders, use their capital to acquire attractive companies, for R & D, for corporate buybacks, paying down debt, and much more - all intended to strengthen the corporation's value beyond 'enticing' potential investors with any dividend payment(s).
In our particular investment advisory practice here, we like both dividend-payors, and pure growth plays (- which often pay little to zero dividend income).
Different investor clients hold different characters and objectives, and each of these differences warrants suitably positioning their unique characters and objectives, as appropriate for them, as unique investors.
So in our investment advisory practice here:
1) Some investors may have a predominant dividend-paying quality portfolio;
2) Some investors may have a zero dividend paying portfolio - highly focused on owning quality growth plays; and
3)?Possibly a larger group of investors may have a good, well-considered combination of quality dividend and quality, 'pure-growth' (-non-dividend paying) character of securities in their aggregate portfolio.
"There is No Free Lunch"?has meaning in this matter of regard with the basic fact that when you want a strong dividend stream, often, not always; but often, you can enjoy this at the expense of a much slower growth than in other higher-growth areas of the publicly-listed markets.
In any event, in manner of being practically useful for some investors now, here are some 2023 August dividend?payment?dates, along with their prior cum (-with) dividend dates, that some may find useful.
